Day One - Bangkok Brunch

Our flight to Bangkok took off on time and although we hardly slept, we still had a lot to be thankful for. Twenty-four hours on and Heathrow was snow-bound, passengers were in despair as their flights were cancelled and a long night on the terminal's hard seats beckoned.

Meanwhile, courtesy of our lovely welcoming host, Nhong, we were ensconced in her Bangkok home eating a selection of exotic fruits: rambutan, mangosteen,  langsat, chompoo and even a smidgeon of durian *.

Nhong is a friend and colleague of our travelling companion, Wiew Sakolban, and we will be eternally grateful for her hospitality and friendship, as well as the other two musketeers, Noy and Pew.

Tomorrow, we will take it easy as we look to get over the rigours of our journey - oh the joys of ageing!

Till then,  ไปก่อนครับ

* the Durian is known in South-East Asia as "the King of Fruits" but I also heard its flavour described as “sweet, rotten onions, eaten in a toilet” and that sounds about right to me.
